Muhammad Didn’t Know if he was Going to Paradise

Muslims – If your own prophet did not know where he was going when he died, how can he lead you to the path of salvation?  How can you be sure of your eternal destiny?

Let’s look at where he says that he does not know of his eternal place.

“Say, “I am not something original among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner” (Quran 46:9).

Some may say that this is about anything else than what it says.  But let’s look at this in context in the hadith:

Narrated ‘Um Al-`Ala:

An Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) that the Ansar drew lots concerning the dwelling of the Emigrants. `Uthman bin Maz’un was decided to dwell with them (i.e. Um Al-`Ala’s family), `Uthman fell ill and I nursed him till he died, and we covered him with his clothes. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and I (addressing the dead body) said, “O Abu As-Sa’ib, may Allah’s Mercy be on you! I bear witness that Allah has honored you.” On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “How do you know that Allah has honored him?” I replied, “I do not know. May my father and my mother be sacrificed for you, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! But who else is worthy of it (if not `Uthman)?” He said, “As to him, by Allah, death has overtaken him, and I hope the best for him. By Allah, though I am the Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me,” By Allah, I will never assert the piety of anyone after him. That made me sad, and when I slept I saw in a dream a flowing stream for `Uthman bin Maz’un. I went to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and told him of it. He remarked, “That symbolizes his (good) deeds” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3929).

How can anyone know in Islam?  A person may just be predestined to Hell.

The mother of the believers, ‘Aishah, said:
“One of the children of the Ansar (who had died) was brought to the Messenger of Allah so he prayed for him.” ‘Aishah said: “How fortunate he is, one of the little birds of Paradise. He never did any evil or reached the age of puberty.” He said: “It is better not to say anything, O ‘Aishah Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, created Paradise and created people for it, He created them in the loins of their fathers. And He created Hell and created people for it, and He created them in the loins of their fathers” (Sunan an-Nasa’i 1947)
Here’s the good news.  With Jesus, you can know your eternal destiny.   Why?  Because Jesus died for your sins, paying the sacrifice, and satisfying justice.  He gives salvation as a free gift to all who put their faith in him.
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him” (John 3:36).
“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).
Put your faith in Jesus and Him alone.  He alone is able to save you from your sins.  He alone gives you the confidence of eternal life.
