Shirk is to associate partners with Allah. It is put themselves on the equal level of Allah. It is one of the most serious crimes in Islam. And it is why Muslims reject Jesus. But did Muhammad himself commit shirk?
1) Earth is the Allah’s…and Muhammad’s
Narrated Abu Huraira:
While we were in the Mosque, the Prophet (ﷺ) came out and said, “Let us go to the Jews” We went out till we reached Bait-ul-Midras. He said to them, “If you embrace Islam, you will be safe. You should know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to expel you from this land. So, if anyone amongst you owns some property, he is permitted to sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle” Sahih al-Bukhari 3167
2) Obey Muhammadas you Obey Allah
“It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever obeys me, obeys Allah, And whoever disobeys me, disobeys Allah” (Sunan Ibn Majah 2859).
“He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah…” (Qur’an 4:80)
3) Exalt Muhammad
That you [people] may believe in Allah and His Messenger and honor him and respect him and exalt him morning and afternoon.”

In Arabic, this reverence is to Muhammad
4) Devotion to Him, greater than your own family
“Narrated Anas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind” (Sahih al-Bukhari 15).
The Result? They worshiped him.
1) He distributed cuts of his hair to the people
Anas b. Malik (Allah be pleased with him) reported:
When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had thrown pebbles at the Jamra and had sacrificed the animal, he turned (the right side) of his head towards the barber, and i. e shaved it. He then called Abu Talha al-Ansari and gave it to him. He then turned his left side and asked him (the barber) to shave. And he (the barber) shaved and gave it to Abu Talha and told him to distribute it amongst the people (Sahih Muslim 1305d).
2) People fought over the water he spit from his mouth and he didn’t stop them
“Mahmud bin Ar-Rabi` who was the person on whose face the Prophet (ﷺ) had ejected a mouthful of water from his family’s well while he was a boy, and `Urwa (on the authority of Al-Miswar and others) who testified each other, said, “Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) , performed ablution, his companions were nearly fighting for the remains of the water” (Sahih al-Bukhari 189)
3) They smeared water from his body over themselves
“Narrated Abu Juhaifa:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to us at noon and water for ablution was brought to him. After he had performed ablution, the remaining water was taken by the people and they started smearing their bodies with it (as a blessed thing)” (Sahih al-Bukhari 187).
4) They collected his sweat
“It is Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) who is having siesta in your house, lying in your bed. She came and found him sweating and his sweat falling on the leather cloth spread on her bed. She opened her scent-bag and began to fill the bottles with it. Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) was startled and woke up and said: Umm Sulaim, what are you doing? She said: Allah’s Messenger, we seek blessings for our children through it. Thereupon he said: You have done something right” (Sahih Muslim 2331b).
